“The ability to turn around: how to be resilient in crises!”
Nelson Évora was projected to the attention of the general public in 2004 when, at just 20 years old, he represented Portugal at the Olympic Games in Athens.
In 2007 the athlete participated in the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham in the triple jump, obtaining 5th place. That same year, at the World Championships in Osaka, Nelson Évora made history, becoming world triple jump champion with a spectacular mark of 17.74 mts.
The following year he was Olympic Champion in Beijing, fulfilling one of his childhood dreams. In a difficult test, Nelson ended the competition at the 4th test, registering a jump of 17.67 mts.
Despite several consecutive injuries, Nelson demonstrated his willpower and overcame those so much that in 2015 he won the Gold Medal at the Europeans and the Bronze at the Worlds. In 2017 he stood out again with the renewal of the European title and a Bronze Medal at the Worlds, and in 2019 he won the silver medal at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.
Nelson recently bid farewell to Olympic trials at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
